Gourd
Etching Workshop to be Held at McGregor Marquette Center for the
Arts. Hard-shelled gourds, like apple gourds or birdhouse gourds
are often painted once they’ve dried. But you can also “etch” the
green skin from the gourd and “paint” it using permanent markers.
Quick, easy and inexpensive! To learn this technique, attend ISU
Extension workshop at the McGregor-Marquette Center for the Arts at
158 Main Street, McGregor on Saturday, October 1st from 10:00 AM
until noon. Participants will learn the basics of growing
gourds, learn how to etch and color a gourd and get a “practice”
gourd to take home. You can even try it out on site in case you have
any questions! To register, call ISU Extension, Clayton County at
245-1451 by Friday, September 30.

Canadian Pacific-
Marquette Riverfront on December 9th at 5:20 pm. “The
Holiday Train is truly “Making a difference, one stop at a time” and
we are honored to be one of only two stops being made in Iowa this
year! I encourage everyone in the area to come out and enjoy the
festivities. There will be carolers and chestnuts roasting on an
open fire! A great way to get in the Holiday spirit!” says Bethany
Reed, Executive Director of the McGregor Marquette Chamber of
Commerce. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will be making a stop
in Marquette, Iowa on December 9. The Canadian Pacific train is
adorned with hundreds of thousands of lights and serves as a stage
for live musical performances. It is an extravagant sight and an
event full of holiday cheer. The brightly decorated train will stop
at Marquette’s Riverfront Marina at 5:20pm on Friday, December 9th.
This stop will help the community and surrounding area collect food
and money for the Clayton County Food Shelf. The following
businesses will have drop boxes for food donations: Crazy Carl’s
Silver Dollar, Creative Enz, Eagles Landing Winery, Marquette Café,
McGregor Pharmacy and The Paper Moon. All are asked to bring a
donation of nonperishable food items or a monetary donation to the
area business or to the Holiday Train that evening. See you there!
